On Wednesday 2 October 2024, ACBC WA and CCCA Perth Branch held their annual China National Day celebrations at the Fraser’s State Reception Centre in Perth Western Australia.
Supported by event partners China Construction Bank Perth Branch, Fortescue, Black Diamond Drilling Services Australia and WA TVET, the event welcomed more than 200 attendees from government, business, academic and cultural institutions to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and to more broadly celebrate the Australia-China relationship.
The evening was MC’d by the chairs of both organisations (Mr James Clarke (ACBC WA) and Dr David Sun (CCCA Perth Branch)), with speakers including Hon Roger Cook MLA Premier of Western Australia; Mr Dingbin Long Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Perth; and Shelley Robertson Chief Operating Officer at Fortescue.
The event also welcomed many distinguished guests including Hon Peter Collier MLC (Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council; Shadow Minister for Police; Corrective Services; Culture and the Arts); Basil Zempilas (Right Honourable The Lord Mayor of Perth); and Sally Dawkins (WA State Director, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade).
Speakers spoke to the longevity and strength of the friendship between WA and China, and the mutually beneficial economic relationship that WA and China share. The sentiment in the room reflected the optimism that Australian and Chinese businesses share for the future of the bilateral relationship.
At the event the Australia China Business Council West Australian Branch (ACBC WA) was pleased to announce the recipient of the ACBC WA Honorary Awards Program for 2024, for an individual who has provided outstanding and sustained service to the Australia China Business Council WA, as Ms Noelene Murray. The Award recognised Noelene’s significant contribution to the development and achievement of the ACBC’s objectives in Western Australia.

This award was presented by the Hon Roger Cook MLA, Premier of Western Australia.
Formalities concluded with door prizes, including one winner of 2 return tickets from Perth to China, sponsored by China Southern Airlines, who will resume direct flights between Guangzhou and Perth in November 2024; and a further 12 winners who each took home a wine hamper that was kindly supported by 3 Oceans.
