AUSTRALIA CHINA BUSINESS COUNCIL (ACBC) TO HOST 20TH ANNUAL CANBERRA NETWORKING DAY
The Australia China Business Council (ACBC) is set to host its 20th annual Canberra Networking Day (CND) at Parliament House on Thursday 12th September 2024, bringing together key business leaders, policymakers, and industry stakeholders. This year’s event will focus on strengthening and exploring what lies ahead for the future of Australia-China economic relations.
The importance of the relationship as Australia’s largest trading partner is reflected in the line-up of speakers including presentations from the Foreign Minister, Trade Minister, Leader of Opposition, and shadow counterparts.
ACBC President and Chair, David Olsson AM, will deliver the opening address, reflecting on the decade since the signing of the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA) and its role in increasing bilateral trade to $325 billion in 2024. “We are at a pivotal moment in our relationship with China, and this event offers the chance to turn our shared potential into tangible outcomes,” Olsson will say.
The theme of this year’s event -Capability, Opportunity, and Ambition – will highlight the need for Australian businesses to engage with China in an informed and resilient manner. Sessions will explore collaboration in key areas such as decarbonisation, the impact of geopolitics on regional partnerships, and insights from Australian businesses operating in China. “The opportunities for collaboration between Australia and China, from energy transition to sustainable agriculture, are vast, but they require ambition, capability, and innovation,” Olsson will add.
The event will also showcase the contributions of Chinese Australians to the bilateral relationship, discussing how Australian businesses can better engage with these communities.
On the night prior, ACBC will host the HSBC Executive Dinner at the National Gallery of Australia featuring keynote presentation from Rio Tinto’s Australian Chief Executive Kellie Parker with guests set to enjoy a menu crafted by Adam Liaw celebrating Australian rock lobster with matching Penfolds wine.
ACBC looks forward to a day of engaging discussions and collaboration, encouraging all participants to contribute bold ideas to help shape the future of Australia-China relations.
