Brett has occupied Victoria’s most senior trade representative spot based in China for close to three years. During that time, he has led Victoria’s economic engagement with the region amid a backdrop of ongoing COVID struggles and dynamic challenges in the region gifting him a unique perspective of our most important trade partner.

At this 1-hour virtual briefing, Brett will outline the Victorian Government’s strategies and plans in China for 2023, providing insights into priority areas to help you align your business goals in the coming year.

Brett Stevens represents the State Government of Victoria as Commissioner to Greater China with a remit including Hong Kong, Taiwan and Mongolia.

Based in Shanghai, he leads a team focused on developing opportunities for Victoria in trade and foreign direct investment activities across the region.

Prior to joining the Victorian government, Brett began his career in the diverse field of aquaculture, which informs his unique expertise across the agribusiness and F&B sectors. He has extensive project management experience across a wide variety of markets within Australia, Indonesia, China, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, French Polynesia, Thailand, and Oman. Having developed numerous projects from the ground-up in often remote and isolated regions, Brett brings a resourceful and creative angle to his work.

Brett joined the Victorian Government in 2009 as the Manager of Major Projects, delivering specialist services across Asia and the Middle East targeted at capturing export development opportunities and attracting foreign direct investment.

Since 2013, he has held sequential posts as Commissioner to Indonesia, then Commissioner to Southeast Asia before moving northwards to China in 2020 for his current role.
