Join ACBC QLD for our first in-person event for 2022, as we celebrate the importance of Queensland’s International Tourism Sector, as it recovers from the impacts of COVID-19 and the recent floods.

Guests will hear from John Lee, Director-General, Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport (DTIS), and Judy Hill, Accommodation Division Manager, Queensland Hotels Association (QHA) as they provide their respective insights into Tourism Recovery and Business Readiness. Ben James, Airline Development Manager from Brisbane Airport Corporation will moderate this event.

Given the lifting of a number of COVID-19 related restrictions, and the opening of international borders, the time is right to discuss both the opportunities and challenges associated with tourism recovery, and network.

Event Speakers

John Lee

Director-General | Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport(DTIS)

In his role as the Director-General, Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport, John is leading the government’s objectives to drive growth and support jobs through the state’s tourism and innovation, as well as promoting sport and active recreation. John leads the government’s work and support in rebuilding Queensland’s tourism industry and the wider visitor economy. This involves a mix of tactical measures and long-term strategies, including the development of the ‘Action Plan for Tourism Recovery’. He sits on the Board of Tourism and Events Queensland to provide similar support and direction through that forum. In terms of innovation, John has the opportunity in his role to engage with some of the state’s most entrepreneurial and brightest thinkers, encouraging new industries, new technology, skills and ideas to support Queenslanders. In the area of sport and active recreation, John oversees government investment in infrastructure, major events, key venues and support for the state’s elite athletes via his involvement on the Boards of the Queensland Academy of Sport and Health and Wellbeing Queensland. Over the last year, John was also an active member of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Candidature Executive Group, liaising with key stakeholders as well as providing advice to the Premier, Minister and across key agencies. John has enjoyed a highly successful career working in government, tourism, sport, major events and transport. He has extensive experience in sports administration, having run a national sporting organisation (Australian Sailing) and two National Rugby League Clubs (Sydney Roosters and South Sydney Rabbitohs).

Judy Hill

Accommodation Division Manager | Queensland Hotels Association (QHA)

Judy has significant experience both in years and positions in the hotel, hospitality, travel and tourism industries holding senior management positions in several of these industries. As a past Board member of Women in Tourism (Gold Coast) Inc, Founding Member of Women in Tourism International Alliance Limited (WITIA) and the Chair of the Tourism Advisory Board @ Bond University. Judy held the position of Executive Development Programs Manager at Southern Cross University campuses and has a broad understanding of the tourism sector and the importance of connecting with the industry. She was previously the Director of her event management company Upfront Events and Marketing Pty Ltd together with owning two travel agencies. Judy has been the Accommodation Division Manager of Queensland Hotels Association for the past 14 years where she provides specialist accommodation and tourism industry advice to their members. She has strong relationships with Tourism & Events Queensland, Regional Tourism Organisations and Government Ministers both at a State & Federal level.
