Wednesday 28 August 2024 – The Australia China Business Council Victoria was proud to host the ANU ACBC Decarbonisation Forum on the topic of Powering Victoria: The Future of Offshore Wind in collaboration with the Australia National University’s Crawford School of Public Policy with the support of The National Foundation for Australia-China Relations.
The event, hosted at The Langham Melbourne, was based on Victoria undergoing a once-in-a-generation energy transition. This state has some of the best wind resources in Australia, along the southern coast and in the higher altitude areas and is a key pillar in our renewable energy future.
The forum was started with a keynote presentation from Liming Qiao, Head of Global Wind Energy Council Asia, presenting about global offshore wind development, focusing on Asia-Pacific’s competitive advantage in offshore wind instillations. She was followed by Huang Junling, Susie Kropman and Morgan Rossiter who gave their overview on the Australia and China policy and market. The 4 speakers came together for a Q&A discussion that was moderated by Dr Peter Hansford.
Following Topic 1, David Blowers, Joe Harber, Glen McColl and Liu Wenhao presented Topic 2 on supply chains for offshore wind turbines, with Australian local, state and federal government perspectives, as well as from the Chinese business point of view. They too came together for a Q&A discussion moderated by Dr Llewelyn Hughes.
We thank all speakers, both in person and speaking from China online, as well as the attendees for their active participation. We hope you enjoyed the afternoon, and we look forward to seeing you at the next ACBC event.
