DUANWU – Friendship Through Sport

The ACBC was proud to join our national partner MA Financial to sponsor the second annual Duanwu ‘Friendship Through Sport’ event held on Sunday 9 June at the Sydney Cricket Ground before the game between the Sydney Swans and Geelong Cats. The game was played during the week of the Dragon Boat (or Duanwu) Festival, one of the most important cultural celebrations in China and across Asia.

This event is also a wonderful celebration of the significant contribution Chinese migrants have made to Australia, including their relatively unknown involvement in Australian Rules Football, especially in country communities for the past 140 years. Deputy Prime Minster Richard Marles, NSW Minister for Multiculturalism and Sport Stephen Kamper, and Cultural Counsellor Mr Xiao Xiaoyongfrom the Chinese Embassy joined government, business and community leaders to celebrate friendship and the unique people-to-people links that underpin the Australia-China relationship.
