On Wednesday 2 October 2024, the Australia China Business Council Western Australia (ACBC WA) and China Chamber of Commerce in Australia (Perth Branch) were delighted to hold the Premier of Western Australia’s 6th China-WA Strategic Dialogue in Perth.
Initiated by the Australia China Business Council WA and China Chamber of Commerce Perth Branch, the inaugural Dialogue took place in Beijing in 2018, and alternates between Perth and Beijing on an annual basis.
The Dialogue is one of ACBC and CCCA’s flagship annual events and brings together 20-30 chairpersons/senior executives of major Chinese Enterprises from all over China for candid and direct discussion with the Premier of Western Australia.
It is the first time the Hon. Roger Cook MLA has presided over the Dialogue since becoming the WA Premier.
In his opening remarks at the Dialogue, Premier Cook said that the relationship between WA and China has been “one of the great success stories of the last century”. He went on to say that “we’ve realized the extraordinary potential of the Western Australia China relationship, and we see just so much more that can be done.” Referring to the recently released Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre “Australia’s Trade and Economic Relationship with China – benefit to Australian households” report, commissioned by the Australia China Business Council, Premier Cook went further to say “modelling has pointed to WA-China trade generating over 220,000 jobs — so there’s almost not a person in Western Australia who is not directly engaged as part of that relationship, or doesn’t know someone or related to someone as part of that relationship.”
This year’s Dialogue was supported by Event Sponsor HFW and Event Partner China Construction Bank Corporation Perth Branch, and was moderated by Mr James Clarke, President of ACBC WA.
“When we first began this Dialogue its mission was simple: it was to create an opportunity for WA’s largest trade and investment partners from China to have direct and candid dialogue directly with the Premier of WA; providing further insights into the experiences of our Chinese trade and investment partners in our state. It also provides an opportunity for these partners to gain a greater understanding of WA Government priorities”, Mr Clarke said.
In his opening remarks, CCCA Perth Branch Dr David Sun further said, “we do not expect to be able to fix everyone’s issues through today’s discussion; but the important thing is that we are talking.”
The delegates attending the Dialogue were decision makers from a diverse range of industries including mining & resources, mining services, shipping & logistics, oil & gas, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, financial services & banking, and primary industries.
