Vale Michael Chilvers ACBC Tasmania President

22 Mar 2021

It is with a very heavy heart that the Australia China Business Council branch of Tasmania pays tribute to the tragic passing of the Tasmanian President Michael Chilvers.

Our thoughts are with Fiona and his two children Charlotte and Felix, and his greater family.

Michael recently became the President of the Tasmanian branch as well as taking a national role on the Australian Board. Michael’s passion for life and humanity has touched all that met him and he will be fondly remembered for conducting board meetings from the cabin of his tractor during harvest – bringing a touch of reality to those that attended in suits overlooking cities.

Michael was one of those rare people for whom being successful in his field was not enough. Michael was always looking to improve what he could influence; his acceptance of the role of President was met with anticipation but mixed with eagerness to step outside the comfort zone to play a part in improving relations between Australia and China. Michael was passionate in that a mutual friendship and trusting partnership between our two countries was only of benefit to both parties in creating a better world for our children.
