As social distancing measures kept students at home, education providers across Australia and China were suddenly faced with the challenge of getting their online delivery platforms up and running in a matter of weeks. Throughout this dramatic transition, Tencent, China’s technology giant and multinational conglomerate has been at the forefront in providing digital solutions that support more than 72,000 organisations in China in delivering high quality education across a wide range of demographics. Our guest speaker from Tencent will explore the role that cutting-edge technology plays in digital learning, hybrid delivery models, the future of online study and will also provide case studies of online delivery in action.

As one of Australia’s leading universities, our guest speakers from the University of Queensland (UQ) will discuss valuable lessons learnt from the transition to online delivery, including using student feedback to make continual improvements, projections for the recovery journey ahead for the international education sector and what Australia and China can learn from each other from their own experiences of transitioning to online delivery.

Dr Nelson Zha

Chief Software Architect, Tencent Cloud
.Dr. Nelson holds a Ph.D in Computer Engineering from the University of Houston. In his role at Tencent, he currently leads the architectural design and technological innovation of internet services such as online education, real-time audio, video, games, etc. Dr. Nelson also has been engaged in the low-latency network and 5G, edge computing, and other technical research for many years, having developed multiple patents and standard outputs.

Greg Winslett, PhD

Deputy Director, Digital Learning, University of Queensland
.Greg leads UQ's digital learning strategy, ensuring that the overall experience for staff and students aligns with UQ’s distinctive approach to active learning. He holds a PhD in higher education innovation and an Executive MBA. Greg has held several professional and academic roles in his twenty years at the intersection of technology and education. He has lived and worked in Brisbane, Osaka and Barcelona and developed a keen interest in how digital technologies support cross-cultural competencies. Greg is currently exploring ways in which higher education strategy and administration can better link to industry and community practices.

Brendon Lutwyche

Director, International Services, Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, University of Queensland
.Brendon is an education professional with over twenty years of experience, working in the areas of international and domestic student recruitment and marketing, mobility, admissions, international development, partnerships and administration. Currently he is the Director, International Services in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law at The University of Queensland. He is currently a member of the ACBC QLD Education Industry Working Group.

Moderator: Rachel Colaso

Chair, ACBC QLD Education Industry Working Group; Head of Education, Brisbane Marketing
In her role as Head of Education, Rachel has responsibility for leading Study Brisbane and working collaboratively with the city’s international education industry to attract students, enhance their experience whilst living in the city, connect the international education ecosystem within the city and retain students’ relationship with Brisbane once they have graduated. Rachel has comprehensive and cross sectorial expertise and experience over a number of areas of the education industry. With over 24 years’ experience, during her career she has worked with schools, VET, Universities, industry and governments across a range of international activities. Prior to her role with Brisbane Marketing Rachel worked at UQ managing a portfolio of aid and development programs being delivered by the university through training and mentorship in developing countries.
