Strategic China Briefing with Rowan Callick

25 Mar 2022

Join ACBC for a deep dive into China’s recent domestic affairs, governance developments and implications for the Australia-China relationship.

ACBC is proud to partner with Global Victoria Trade Alliance to introduce the first of our 2022 Strategic China Briefings.

In an increasingly complex global environment, these briefings will offer members and the wider community the opportunity, through leading speakers, to gain greater knowledge and understanding of the historical context, current issues, mutual benefits and opportunities afforded by our trading relationship with China.

To kick things off, we are pleased to host Australia’s leading China observer, Rowan Callick, a journalist, author and academic, with unrivalled experience in China and Australia.

Focusing on China’s recent domestic affairs, Rowan will share insights about the degree of inertia expected in the leadup to the Party Congress in November, shedding light on internal party mechanisms before a new ministerial term begins in 2023.

Through this roundtable style online event, Rowan will also discuss opportunities for engagement and other aspects of the complexities around Australia’s relationship with China. There will be an opportunity for Q & A following his presentation.

About the speaker:

Rowan Callick is a public speaker, author and Walkley Award winning media writer. He is an Industry Fellow at Griffith University’s Asia Institute and a member of the Advisory Boards of La Trobe University’s Asia Institute and of its China Studies Department, of the Australia China Relations Institute at University of Technology Sydney, and of the National Foundation for Australia China Relations. As a journalist, he was Beijing-based China Correspondent of The Australian, following 20 years with The Australian Financial Review including as China Correspondent based in Hong Kong.
