As international students return to commence or resume studying, living and working across this vast state, join us as we hear from Study Queensland, Queensland’s Department of Education International, and Austrade on the latest insights regarding the sector.

The desire of Chinese students to study abroad remains, with Queensland education providers, and key stakeholders committed as ever to ensuring Queensland remains the destination of choice for current and future international students from China.

Event Speakers

Melissa Banks

Head of International Education Centre of Excellence, Austrade

Melissa Banks provides national industry leadership and stakeholder engagement to drive innovation, collaboration and capability development. An experienced leader, Melissa brings a rich background in international education spanning 30 years and including multiple education sectors. She was most recently the Pro Vice Chancellor International at James Cook University. Throughout her career she has contributed to international research forums to advance the international education sector in Australia, including as the most recent antecedent President of the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA). Melissa is a recipient of the prestigious Award for Distinguished Contribution to the Field of International Education (IEAA) and was recently identified as a key influencer of change and innovation in the Australian Higher Education sector.

Kylie Cooper

Director, Study Queensland Directorate, Trade and Investment Queensland

Kylie Cooper is currently the Director of Study Queensland with responsibility for delivering initiatives and advocating for the international education and training sector. Kylie has recently moved from The University of Queensland where she was a Senior Manager in Global Engagement and Entrepreneurship. At UQ she developed the first institutional Entrepreneurship Strategy, established a number of new entrepreneurship programs and implemented related governance, reporting and evaluation frameworks. Kylie has over twenty years combined in higher education and Queensland Government experience, primarily in research, innovation, entrepreneurship and economic policy and programs. She has represented Queensland on national policy committees and delivered a number of whole-of-Government strategies and delivered statewide innovation programs.

Simone Fuller

Director, Department of Education International ( trading as Education Queensland International)

Simone Fuller is an impassioned educator and experienced educational leader working with students and schools for over 30 years. During this time Simone has worked across a number of secondary schools both in Queensland and internationally. Much of her latter work in Queensland was as Deputy Principal at the Queensland Academy for Science Mathematics and Technology, a selective entry International Baccalaureate World School for high achieving students. Her international leadership experience has included the Head of Middle School at the Australian International School in Singapore and the Head of the Middle and Senior School at the Australian International School in Malaysia. These experiences have enabled a strong insight and understanding of the needs of international students and their families and how collectively schools can support them to flourish in a new environment. As Director, Education International Queensland, she leads development, growth and implementation of international student programs in Queensland state schools. This includes the management of international student program operations and strategy, performance and legislative compliance across the state and a complex supply chain and distribution network, the international student programs across Queensland state schools.
