ACBC QLD ‘Australian Agricultural Exports in China: A Buyer’s Perspective’ Report Presentation

Join ACBC QLD Food and Agriculture Industry Working Group to discuss findings of this newly released report and impacts on trade and investment with China.

This report by China Policy was commissioned to inform policymakers and key stakeholders about the risks and opportunities of China as an export destination for Australian agricultural products. It looks through the eyes of a Chinese buyer, describing why Chinese purchasers buy Australian products, what differentiates them from domestic and international competitors, and structural reasons for buying or not buying Australian. The report collates information from a wide range of Chinese sources, including interviews. The first section describes major driving forces influencing the Chinese food system, providing some context for the rest of the report. There is then in-depth discussion of five food products: beef, dairy, wheat, barley and wine. The final section outlines key themes to emerge from this work as well as opportunities and risks for Australian exporters.  Access the report here.

Brodie Paul

Partnerships Director, China Policy
China Policy is a policy analysis and strategic advisory firm headquartered in Beijing. The company is a leading English language reporting service on Chinese government policy and also represents Chinese media outlets in Australia. Brodie also consults for companies looking to implement Chinese language media communications and investor relations programs. Growing up in Hong Kong, Brodie began his language training in Taiwan before taking a Princeton University fellowship at Dalian University of Technology, Liaoning province. He lived and worked in Shanghai for over a decade while continuing his studies at Fudan University. His experience of work across China includes education, logistics, and credit management. Returning to raise a family in Australia, Brodie worked in China focused trade and investment roles in the Queensland Government.

Brian has more than 25 years' experience dedicated to servicing clients in agribusiness and primary industries across Australia. He has advised on some of Australia's most prominent rural transactions in areas as diverse as cattle, cotton, dairy, wheat, horticulture, permanent row crops and vineyards amongst others. Brian acts for local and international agribusinesses, primary producers and investors. His in-bound clients are drawn from the USA, Canada, the UK, Singapore and China amongst others.
