Brisbane: ACBC QLD Business Briefing Luncheon addressed by the Hon Jackie Trad MP, Deputy Premier, Minister for Transport, Minister for Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning

The Queensland launch of the ACBC’s latest Australia China Trade Report was held at an ACBC QLD Business Briefing Luncheon addressed by the Hon Jackie Trad MP, Deputy Premier, Minister for Transport, Minister for Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning and Minister for Trade on 23 April 2015 at the Sofitel Hotel Brisbane.  The Luncheon was attended by over 280 business representatives including major Chinese companies with operations in Queensland.  The Deputy Premier outlined the importance of the Queensland and China trade and investment relationship.  She also addressed the audience on the new Queensland Government’s economic development priorities.  Dr Yongchen Zhao, Chinese Consul General and Ms Jiqing Jiang, Chief of Economic and Commercial Office also attended the event.

Key findings of the Report include:

  • Australia’s trade with China as a share of total trade has risen from 8% in 2003 to 23% in 2013.
  • Direct trade with China contributed about 5.5% to Australia’s GDP.
  • Since 2009, China has contributed a higher proportion to Australian GDP than Japan or the United States.
  • Nearly 200,000 Australian jobs were sustained by direct exports to China. 

The Luncheon was well supported by corporate sponsors - NAB, Deloitte, King and Wood Malleson, Port of Brisbane, CBA and Union Pay.  Attendees rated the Luncheon as the best networking event for China business.
