09 October 2019

PERTH: The Australia China Business Council West Australian Branch (ACBC WA) is pleased to announce the recipients of the ACBC WA Honorary Awards Program for 2019, Peter Chong and James Clarke.
The Honorary Awards Program was established in 2016 as an initiative of the ACBC WA Executive Committee and has been established to recognise outstanding and sustained service to the organisation and the Western Australia-China relationship.
This prestigious program was created because exceptional individuals that contribute to the Western Australia and China trade, investment and cultural relationship deserve to be recognised.

Peter has also served as a National Director and was involved in organising a business luncheon for the then Vice-Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Li Keqiang. He has continued to be an active member of the Committee and is always keen to support the Council.
“It has been a great honour and privilege for me to serve the WA Branch of the ACBC for the last 13 years.  During this time, it has been a source of great joy for to see ACBC WA grow from strength to strength and WA-China business and people relations get ever stronger and deeper. The last 13 years have been a wonderful ride. I’m happy to still be on that ride. All this would not have been possible without the continuous support of my employer KPMG; and my wife Carmel who was most understanding when I worked late organising ACBC events. Thank you to ACBC for this award,” said Peter Chong.
James Clarke has been involved with ACBC WA since 2013. He has been a member of the Committee in various roles since 2014 including Chair of the Technology and Social Media Committee, Vice President and Executive Vice President. In the role as Executive Vice President he has supported the day-to-day operations of the Council with coordinating the development and roll out of the National CRM system. He has also managed working groups for the creation of the ACBC WA ‘Significant and Premium Investor Visa Programmes: Second Round of Stakeholder Consultations’ and the ‘ACBC WA & MIA International Education, Migration Settings and Job Creation – Positioning Western Australia to be the best’ reports. James continues to support the Council.
“It was an honour to receive the ACBC WA award for outstanding and sustained service at last week’s China National Day event.  It is my hope the Australia China relationship moves from strength to strength. I would also like to thank my firm LH Global and MD Mr Xu for allowing me to spend so much time on pursuing initiatives that deepen the relationship. Thank you ACBC WA President Adam Handley and the Honorary Awards Committee for this award,” said James.
The award recipients were announced and presented by The Hon. Peter Tinley MLA Minister for Housing, Veteran Issues, Youth, Asian Engagement at the ACBC WA and Chinese Chamber of Commerce Australia (CCCA) China National Day Celebrations held at Government House on Thursday October 3, 2019.
‘The ACBC in Western Australia is indebted to all the business executives who volunteer their time as part of our Executive Committee and various committees and it is a pleasure, via this award, to recognise the reach and influence of Peter and James’ important advocacy work,’ said Adam Handley, President of ACBC WA.
