The Chinese New Year dinner was held on the 11th of February at the Grand Ballroom Crown Perth. This year’s dinner celebrated the Chinese Year of the Horse and was a classy success with more than 700 guests attending.
The ballroom was filled with decor that took guests back to Shanghai in the 1920's - a time when China’s music and film industries flourished, and the city’s nightclubs and cabaret bars were filled with the sounds of jazz. The dinner was filled with great speeches by influential speakers and fabulous Chinese (Jess Young) and Australian (Scott Craig, Renee Pilkington and the very flexible Rybka Twins) performances.
Mr Adam Handley, National Director and President (WA) of the Australia China Business Council, presented his warm welcome at the beginning of the dinner, followed by a New Year toast by Dr Huang Qin Guo, the Consul-General of the People's Republic of China in Perth. Guests were blown away by a variation on a well-known Chinese song by Mr Yin Jian Zhong, whilst the Hon Brendon Grylls (representing the State Government) gave the keynote speech.
ACBC's National President Duncan Calder also made an appearance, congratulating Adam Handley on his WA Presidency and the great work ACBC (WA) has achieved to date. Special mention was made of Peter Chong and Lili Pan for all their hard work in making ACBC's fantastic events a success.
Guests present again commented that this was one of the most elegant Chinese New Year dinners put up by the ACBC and was another great opportunity for members to network among themselves and with Chinese companies.
