Canberra Networking Day at Parliament House 19 June 2018

The Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, HE Cheng Jingye Chinese Ambassador to Australia, Shadow Foreign Minister Senator Penny Wong, as well as other Ministers, Parliamentarians, policy makers and business leaders will join 200 members of the Australia China Business Council (ACBC) at Parliament House on Tuesday, 19 June for ACBC Canberra Networking Day 2018.

Canberra Networking Day is an annual, member-only event hosted each year by ACBC with the support of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Chinese Embassy.  ACBC National President John Brumby said, ‘Canberra Networking Day is a unique opportunity for Australian businesses engaged in China to exchange ideas on the future of the Australia-China relationship with government representatives at the highest level. Australia broke the record for the longest run of uninterrupted growth, marking its 26th year of consecutive economic growth. A large part of that success is directly attributable to our relationship with China with bilateral trade exceeding $170 billion.’

This year’s Canberra Networking Day is about strengthening people to people exchange between our two nations with a large focus on services. As China rebalances its economy to a consumption basis, its demand will shift from raw materials to manufactured goods and services, and our relationship with China will also shift from a transactional to a relational approach. Services cannot be provided as a transactional commodity. Services require deep relationships and mutual understanding.

John Brumby said, ‘The rising Chinese middle class continues to have an insatiable appetite for premium goods and services, which Australia is well placed to provide including education, tourism, healthcare, and professional services.’

Canberra Networking Day will feature keynote addresses by Ministers and Shadow Ministers as well as senior business leaders in discussions on topics ranging from digital disruption & e-commerce, international education, healthcare & aged care, and creative & performing arts and sport.

Canberra Networking Day 2018 is sponsored by Telstra, Swisse, ShineWing Australia, and PowerfulPoints.
