Australia China Business Council (Victoria) recently hosted Rob Scott, Director of a Shanghai-based advisory firm China BlueSky Ventures, to examine the current trend of innovation and entrepreneurship in China. Rob shared his observations from his business practice in China to bring to light the changing relationship and structure of the Australia China trade balance. Rob addressed both the opportunities and challenges faced by Australian businesses, who are looking to access customers, capital and partners from China’s rapidly developing market, including the changing nature of IP in China. Rob also provided case studies of two Victorian organisations that have strong China connections, jointly presenting with Geoff Drenkhahn, COO of Burnet Institute and Gary Mackenzie, CEO of Valleyarm. Building upon a 20 year history of collaboration with Chinese medical researchers and institutions, Burnet Institute is now looking to China as a base for the translation and commercialisation of its research. Rob Scott was the former Queensland State Leader of Ernst & Young’s China Business Group working for Australian SME clients entering the China market and for major Chinese clients (such as Guangdong Power and Yunnan Copper) facilitating their investment in Australia. He has a 15 year history of successfully working in the international trade and investment sector and his China Bluesky Ventures is assisting fast growth Australian companies doing business in China and Chinese investors entering the Australian and international markets.
