Event Recap: International Health Roundtable

06 April 2016

On Wednesday 6 April, over 30 guests attended our roundtable discussion with guest speaker Mr Jon Evans, Head of International Health, Victorian Government, at International Chamber House.

Following the welcome from Lisa Renkin, ACBC Victoria Vice President and Chair of the Health and Medical Research Working Group, and round-the-table introductions, Jon discussed the major issues currently faced by China’s health and medical research sector including the ageing population, the implications of the one child policy, the increase in chronic disease cases and rising levels of pollution and contamination. These issues give rise to many opportunities for Australia, particularly concerning aged care, biotech, policy reforms, as well as workforce training and development. He highlighted the importance of collaborating and building strong partnerships with Chinese counterparts, particularly emphasising the need to co-develop strategies to achieve mutual benefits.

The afternoon was filled with interesting discussion regarding the fast-growing and dynamic medical and healthcare market. The luncheon concluded with Q&A and networking.

We kindly thank Jon Evans for sharing his insights and research. We extend our thanks also to Lisa, for facilitating the event and the other members of our Executive Committee including President The Hon Ken Smith; Vice President, Liming Huang and Charles Curwen (Domestic Commissioner to China) for contributing to the depth of discussion.
