20 December 2015

Sunday 20 December 2015

ACBC National President, the Hon John Brumby, welcomed today the entry into force of the China-Australia Free Trade Agreement, ChAFTA.

‘Today marks a watershed in  Australia-China relations, with ChAFTA now in operation after nearly 10 years of negotiations.  The competitive advantages ChAFTA accords Australian businesses in the China market are immense and will be immediate, with a first round of tariff cuts on entry into force followed by a second round on 1 January 2016’, Mr Brumby said.

‘ChAFTA is a substantial achievement for both Australia and China, an important expression of confidence in our economic relationship. The Agreement will be the platform that will take our relationship to a new level’, he added.

“On behalf of the ACBC I would like to congratulate all those who contributed to the negotiation and successful ratification of ChAFTA. We now look forward to working with other stakeholders in promoting the benefits of the Agreement to Australian businesses and making sure that the immense opportunity the Agreement provides is realised’.
