Brisbane: ACBC Business Briefing Luncheon - Investment from China in Tourism and Property Development – 22 July 2015

22 July 2015

Queensland’s Tourism and Property Sectors are attracting the interest of Chinese investors.  ACBC QLD was proud to host a sold out luncheon featuring Mr XU Weimin, Managing Director of Dalian Wanda Gold Coast Company and Mr YU Yi, Managing Director of Fullshare International (Australia).  The Luncheon presented an opportunity for our members and guests to hear more about these prominent projects and future plans.

Dalian Wanda Group is China’s largest five-star hotel owner.  The Group operates in four major areas - commercial property, luxury hotels, culture & tourism, and department stores.  The $1 billion Wanda Ridong Jewel development, on the beachfront at Surfers Paradise, will open in 2018.

Fullshare Group is one of the top 500 private enterprises in China.  The company has interests across China in building and construction, property development, new energy, medical devices and health services.  In Australia, Fullshare has invested strongly in regional Queensland with an impressive portfolio including the Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas, the Laguna Comprehensive Tourism Development in Mackay and Whisper Bay Luxury Water Front Villas in Airlie Beach.

The Luncheon included panel discussions by industry experts who are facilitating Chinese investments into Queensland and provided an insight into what investors are looking for, the regulatory framework and future growth areas.  Panel members were Michael Back, Managing Partner, Brisbane – Herbert Smith Freehills, Peter Hyland, Queensland Regional Director and National Board member of Urbis and Paul Martyn, Deputy Director-General, Department of Tourism, Major Events, Small Business & Commonwealth Games. The Panel was moderated by Richard Kennerley, Executive Director UQ Business School.

ACBC Qld thanks our event partners who helped make this event a great success: Brisbane Airport Corporation, Herbert Smith Freehills, Urbis and Architectus.  Sofitel Brisbane again offered a great lucky door prize with Mr Marcus Hanna, General Manager presenting the accommodation with breakfast prize to a lucky winner.
