Sydney: China and Jobs Growth in Australia: Preparing for the Future

15 September 2015

Hunt & Hunt, Level 13, Gateway, 1 Macquarie Place, Sydney, NSW, 2000

The Australia China Business Council will be hosting The Hon. John Barilaro MP, NSW Minister for Regional Development, Minister for Skills, and Minister for Small Business, and industry experts for an evening seminar and panel discussion on how China’s deepening engagement with Australia and how we must prepare to meet the workforce demands of the future.

Join us to discuss what new opportunities will arise for small businesses in metro and regional Australia through deeper engagement with China and where the emerging industries lie and how Australia can skill itself today to meet future demand.

This is a great opportunity to meet the Minister and to understand the key priorities of the NSW Government in up-skilling the NSW workforce, developing key regional centers, and promoting deeper engagement with China for the benefit of the NSW economy.

Speakers

The Hon. John Barilaro MP, Minister for Regional Development, Minister for Skills, and Minister for Small Business

When Minister John Barilaro starts talking ‘shop’, it becomes evident as to why the Premier put the responsibility of the Regional Development, Skills and Small Business portfolios upon his shoulders. Having spent most of his working life running a small business in Queanbeyan, John has been through the myriad of challenges, joys, risk and reward involved in such an undertaking. As a previous small business owner, it is refreshing to see John become a voice within the State Government for the 680,000 small businesses in NSW.

The passion and enthusiasm for progress that compelled John to become a prominent leader in his community has earned him the respect of his ministerial colleagues and given him a reputation for not being afraid to back what he believes in.

John strongly believes in supporting a thriving small business economy, building a skilled workforce for the future and investing in communities across regional NSW. “It doesn’t matter if your own a bakery or a technology business, entrepreneurs are people that see an unmet need in the market and go about finding the best way to fulfil it. As a government, we need to find ways to support more of that.”

As a voice for change in the SME sector, John wants to challenge government, industry leaders and associations to find more effective ways of supporting a thriving, skilled economy in Sydney and regional NSW.
