The Australia China Business Council is delighted to host Mr Minghui Yang (Chairman, China Asset Management Company) and his delegation for a breakfast briefing on China’s funds management industry. The breakfast briefing will include a panel discussion on Chinese macroeconomic issues, China’s equity capital markets and the outlook for foreign investors.
Established in 1998, China Asset Management Company (ChinaAMC) is one of China’s largest mutual fund managers and one of the first nation-wide funds management companies approved by the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC). Today, ChinaAMC Group has over RMB 492 billion* (USD 79 billion) under management and services major institutional investors and over eight million retail investors in China. In August 2009, ChinaAMC (Hong Kong) commenced offering offshore funds to Hong Kong and overseas investors.

Mr Minghui YANG is currently the Chairman of ChinaAMC. He currently also serves as Managing Director of CITIC Securities Co. Ltd. Mr Yang was also a Director of CITIC Trust Co., Ltd.; Chairman of CITIC-Prudential Fund Management Co., Ltd.; and Executive Director, President, Vice Secretary of Party Committee of China Jianyin Investment Securities Co., Ltd. Mr Yang received a Master’s degree from East China Institute of Textile Science and Technology.
Mr. Lai has 15 years’ experience in the financial industry. Mr. Lai joined ChinaAMC (HK) in 2011 as a portfolio manager of long-only offshore Chinese equity strategies. Prior to joining ChinaAMC (HK), he had been a portfolio manager of Chinese equities in several China domestic and offshore financial institutions since 2002, including CITIC Securities International Investment Management, Mirae Asset Global Investments, Yinhua Fund Management and Hang Seng Bank. Mr. Lai received a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree from the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
John is currently the Chairman of Azure Capital, and a Director of the Future Fund Board of Guardians, Crown Perth and Orbital Corporation Ltd. John is the Chairman of Council of Christ Church Grammar School and Giving West. He is also a member of Social Ventures Australia.
John is a Life Member and Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA), a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and Australian Institute of Management (AIM). John is a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia and a recipient of a WA Citizen of the Year award. John holds a Bachelor of Commerce and an honorary Doctor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia.
Jim Boynton is a corporate partner in our Sydney and Melbourne offices with over 25 years' experience in investment funds, products and services. He has chaired a number of industry body committees and regularly deals with government and regulators. He is a member of the Asian Region Funds Passport Working Group of the Australian Financial Centre Trade Forum.
Hans Hendrischke is professor of Chinese business and management, University of Sydney Business School and chair of the executive committee of the China Studies Centre at the University of Sydney.
He lived in China from 1979 working for the diplomatic service and the finance industry. Professor Hendrischke has previously worked at Macquarie University, UNSW and served as director of the University of Sydney Confucius Institute. His main research focus and publications are on emerging local entrepreneurship and business institutions.
