Twilight Briefing with Special Guest Jenny Wallis Director of the Hong Kong Government’s Economic & Trade Office in Australia “Hong Kong – Australia’s Gateway to China”
13 September 2007
Level 27, 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne
After nine years as the Director of the Hong Kong Government’s Economic and Trade Representative Office in Australia and New Zealand, Jenny Wallis is leaving and returning to Hong Kong in mid September. The Victorian Division of the Australia China Business Council has enjoyed a warm and productive relationship with Jenny and her Office throughout her years in Australia. We are therefore pleased and fortunate to have this opportunity to farewell her; to hear her insights on the importance of Hong Kong to Australia’s economic and trade relations with China; and to welcome her successor, Ms Lorna Wong.
Mrs Wallis has had a long and distinguished career spanning more than 30 years with the Hong Kong Government. Amongst other positions, she served with the then Trade, Industry and Customs Department, the Finance Branch, the City and New Territories Administration and the Transport Branch. In this latter capacity she was directly responsible for the Territory's Railway Development Strategy, in particular the planning of the West Rail linking the northwest New Territories and the urban area of Hong Kong. Immediately prior to taking up her position in Australia in 1998 Jenny was the Deputy Secretary for Home Affairs responsible for Hong Kong's culture and sport policies
