As the Party Secretary, Mr Yang is the most senior and influential official in Wuxi. Mr Yang's additional position as a Standing Member of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee ranks him even higher in the Chinese hierarchy (equivalent to a Vice-Minister). As a Standing Member Mr Yang influences policy-making for the entire Jiangsu Province which has the second largest GDP among mainland Chinese provinces (after Guangdong).

Having worked successfully in the  important post of Suzhou Major and been promoted to become the Party Secretary  of Wuxi, Mr Yang, at the age of 44, is also one of the youngest Standing  Members of the CPC Jiangsu Province Committee. He is seen as one of the rising stars in this region, with a strong potential for promotion in the future.
