China’s “consumer class” continues to grow at a rapid rate and this will open up further opportunities for Australian trade and investment in China.
Annual growth of 1% will result in a middle class of around 40% of the Chinese population in 2020, according to Dr Pradeep Taneja, a senior Lecturer in Asian Politics at the University of Melbourne. Dr Taneja examined how an increase in per-capita incomes will lead to greater demand for high-end products, services and natural resources from the Australian market.
Randal Williams, Vice President International Operations, La Trobe Financial Services discussed the bright opportunities for Australian business and highlighted certain growth industries including: agriculture, resources, financial services, tourism, engineering, architecture, green technology and education.
This event was the first collaboration between ACBC and the Australia China Young Professionals Initiative (ACYPI). Over seventy young professionals, entrepreneurs and post-graduate students from a variety of industries and business sectors gathered at Ondergrounds bar for this networking event.
