ACBC Victoria, in collaboration with Melbourne Airport held an interactive and informative forum, focusing on the increasing engagement between Chinese airlines and the Australian market. With opening remarks by the newly appointed Consul-General of PRC in Melbourne, His Excellency Mr Song Yumin, the event included MOU signings between ACBC, Confucius Institute, Destination Melbourne and Weibo. Speaking at the event, The Hon. Gordon Rich-Phillips, Minister for Technology, Aviation and Industry stated that there were 298,000 visitors from China for the year ending March 2013. Chris Woodruff, Melbourne Airport CEO emphasised the changing nature of the Victoria-China aviation and tourism relationship, with Chinese airlines now accounting for 82% of the market. China is Victoria’s largest source of international overnight visitor arrivals, having now overtaken New Zealand. The forum also featured a panel of speakers from Air China, China Eastern, China Southern, Cathay Pacific and Sichuan Airlines.
