ACBC Victoria invites our members and friends to hear from leading speakers on Australia’s future Economic Outlook and the Social Impact of COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Australia’s economy is unusually dependent on China, and a COVID-19 (coronavirus) driven slowdown could mean billions in lost revenue. Chinese-Australian relations have also become strained, leaving behind ramifications beyond fiscal bottom lines.

The virus is changing buying patterns: Food delivery is up, clothing and electronics are running into problems. The tourism, international education, property, mining and medical sectors are just some of the areas that have been hit by the consequences the virus has had on productivity, mobility and the world economy.

Then there is additional the impact on society and the Chinese Australians living here who are coping with varying degrees of uncertainty, racism and Sinophobia.

At this event you will receive an update from leaders in the banking, finance and investment fields as well as the Australian Embassy in Beijing who will cover the economic impact of the coronavirus. We are also pleased to offer you research from Isabel Zhang, Bastion Insights, who has surveyed Chinese living in Australia and gauged their responses to give a primary reference of how the epidemic has impacted their daily lives, their local communities and the broader economy.
