SPEAKER

Dave de Garis | Director and Senior Economist, Markets
National Australia Bank

Dave is a Director and Senior Economist with NAB Global Markets Research. He joined Nab in August 2005.

His bread and butter work is as a business, treasury or financial markets economist, speaking with clients ranging from the Bank’s SME clients to institutional clients at home and abroad. Speaking with clients provides him with a valuable source of timely information “from the coal face” and very much helps to form his view on how the economy is travelling and is likely to perform. As well as visiting most capital cities this past year, he’s been as far away as Albany in WA and Port Lincoln in SA and of course up here is the Territory.

He’s also a key economic opinion and analytical writer for the Bank’s daily and weekly economics and market reports, including his work with media. You may have heard him first thing in the morning providing a wrap up on overnight financial markets and the global economy at 6.50 am on ABC News Radio, or seen him on Sky News, Sky Business, ABC TV, ABC24 Digital, CNBC, Bloomberg TV, ABC TV, as well as with other TV, radio and the print media. He’s a key contributor to the postings on NAB’s financial market web site, www.nab.com.au/financialmarkets.com.au. Have a look at that site for our economists’ daily and special reports.

Dave previously worked with Federal Government, before joining the private sector in the late 1980s, finishing the last part of his public sector career as a senior economic adviser in the then Prime Minister Bob Hawke’s Department in Canberra, before that in the Federal Treasury in the 1980s.
