An In-Market Presence in China

On this episode we speak with Danny Armstrong, Managing Partner from ShineWing Australia, on having an in-market presence in China. We look at what a business needs to consider in being on the ground in China, how an e-commerce channel can test the waters of your product, the proposition of leapfrogging the competition in 3rd and 4th tier cities and the process of transferring funds out of China.

Danny was General Director and Country Head for CBA in Vietnam for 5 years, leading the team that licensed and operationalised the Bank in Vietnam.  In 2011 he joined NAB as General Manager and Country Head, China Banking, to licence and operationalise the Bank on the China mainland.  He was the Chair of the Bank’s China Risk, Performance & Treasury Committee and a member of the Bank’s Leadership Team and Asia Balance Sheet Forum (ALCo).

Whilst in China, he served on the Board of the Australian Chamber of Commerce, Shanghai in the roles of Director, Treasurer and Deputy Chair, and Chaired the Chamber’s Financial Services industry committee.

On returning to Australia in 2017, Danny spent time at Oliver Hume Property Funds as General Manager International prior to joining ShineWing Australia as Managing Partner in October 2017.
