Australia's Consul-General to Shanghai Addresses the ACBC in South Australia

On 3 February 2010 Australia’s Consul-General to Shanghai, Mr Tom Connor presented at our February breakfast function to a full house.
Mr Connor’s presentation provided attendees with a very up to date and insightful snapshot regarding current economic, political and cultural issues and trends in the PRC as we enter 2010 and the year of the tiger. The key points to be drawn from Mr Connor’s presentation include:
The Chinese Government Stimulus Package has been very effective seeing strong growth in the Chinese economy in the last half of 2009 and so far this year.
China has now become Australia’s largest destination for exports.
The forthcoming Shanghai expo would be a major undertaking and Australia has positioned itself very well with its program and investment in the pavilion.
There was also a discussion among attendees regarding the opportunities for foreign investment by Chinese companies in South Australia’s mining sector and the strong growth in Chinese markets for the export from South Australia of education, wine and tourism.
